There are nine bridges near the mouth. Off in the distance is the Kentucky shore across the Ohio River. I can't remember what I was doing every July 4th, but in 1976, the Bicentennial year, I was selling beer upstream at Riverfront Stadium home of the Big Red Machine. On the NBC news that evening they showed a shot of the crowd as part of what America was doing that day. That evening I worked at the Newport Yacht Club run by Dewey Peluso. A woman got in a fight and a Newport cop threw her over his shoulder and carried her out kicking and screaming.
